English speaking countries

It was quite refreshing to go to Ireland. To travel to an English speaking country for once. Lately, I have only travelled to the east, and they hardly know any English there. It was nice to be able to speak and communicate with the locals without having a phrasebook for once.

Anyway, here are more pictures from the first day, walking around in Dublin.

Temple Bar

Temple Bar is famous for all its Irish pubs. But, apparently mostly tourists go there, and so it's usually overpriced. It's a nice place though. We went to a pub called The Temple Bar. Most pubs have live Irish music.

Bertie Ahern

After the Castle, in Dublin, we continued to walk around. All of a sudden, we saw a small crowd of people, police and camera men. Curious as we were, we asked a man what was going on. He said that appantely they had found out that Bertie Ahern, the former taoiseach of Ireland, had had lots and lots of money put into his bank account back in the 90s, and when they had asked him about it, he said that he won it on horses. The man said that it doesn't really matter if it's true or not. If it's a lie, then that's great, and if it's true, well, that's great too, and yes he is right. Either way it's quite funny. Anyway, they were questioning him now and everyone was waiting for him to come out.

We waited for quite a while, but we did finally see him. Unfortunately, we only managed to get blurry pictures of him, but it's better than nothing.

The next day it was in the newspaper.
